DEVOTIONAL SERVICE 31/01/2021

BITTERNESS
TEXT: EPHESIANS 4:31-32

31.Stop being bitter and angry and mad at others. Don’t yell at one another or curse each other or ever be rude.

32. Instead, be kind and merciful, forgive others, just as God forgave you because of Christ.
    (CEV).

“Bitterness is like drinking rat poison and waiting for the rat to die. ” — John Ortberg Jr.

Bitterness is a killer. The soil of bitterness is the heart. The seed of bitterness is hurt. The root of bitterness goes deep into the heart. The fruits of bitterness are hypersensitivity, grudges, ingratitude, insincerity, and unforgiving.
Bitterness takes its toll on the bitter person physically, emotionally and spiritually. Bitterness begins when an offense finds its way into our hearts; when we continually replay the offense in our minds; when we complain about the offense to anyone who cares enough to listen; when we attempt to convince others on the culpability of the perceived offender in order to cause resentment; when we hate the offender without bothering whether the offense was intentional or not; and when we harbour anger, discontent and resentment in our hearts to the point of wishing mishaps, failure, disappointment , reproach and even death for the offender. Bitterness is sinful.
The journey of Life involves interrelationships and people have diverse dispositions. As long as we live, people are going to offend us, disappoint us, and betray us. There are also people who will categorise us as offenders too depending on whatever way they adjudge our acts of omission or commission. That is Life. Despite the situation, we must never allow bitterness to consume us. When a heart is bitter, holiness leaves since hatefulness and holiness do not cohabit in the same vessel. The Bible makes it clear that without holiness we will not see God. In other words, with bitterness we will not see God.

“Try to live at peace with everyone! Live a clean life. If you don’t, you will never see the Lord.” Hebrews 12:14. (CEV).

In order to overcome bitterness we must be empathetic; we must be ready to forgive one another because we also must have hurt people, even if unintentionally; we must not forget that we were sinners before Jesus Christ’s work of grace redeemed us; we must learn to pray into the circumstances of our resentment; we must learn to pray for the person who we consider as the offender; we must seek spiritual counselling, if the need arises; we must draw closer to God and allow the Holy Spirit to comfort us that we will find it easy to forgive and forget; and we must consciously make efforts to disallow resentment, envy, anger, ingratitude, and discontentment grow into bitterness.
God, increase our faith in the name of Jesus Christ.

MESSAGE FROM THE ALTAR.

TREPIDATION TO RELAXATION.
TEXT: ISAIAH 42:21-22.

21.The Lord always does right, and so he wanted his Law to be greatly praised.
22.But his people were trapped and imprisoned in holes with no one to rescue them. All they owned had been taken, and no one was willing to give it back.
(CEV).

What has been your experience till now? Have you been experiencing satanic afflictions? Have your marriage, your health, your finances, and your mind been attacked by demonic forces? Have you been so maltreated by situations that you have become an outcast? Has Satan taken away your happiness so much that you now wear the garment of reproach in pains and defeat? Has affliction turned all your years of struggling into agonizing waste? Has your land been laid bare by locusts and cankerworms? Is Satan insinuating that you are finished, hopeless and helpless? Has the devil convinced you that God has abandoned you and that you can never possess your possessions ? Are you having the notion that it is too late for you to succeed in life?
The Lord has sent me to you, beloved. Listen no more to satanic insinuations. Fear no more the greatly antagonizing situations around you. Look no more at the storm but rather the Power that calms storms. Henceforth, instead of gloom, you will have laughter; instead of being in the dust, you will be lifted up; and instead of desperation, you will have restoration. The work of the enemy in your life is abating and ceasing. Instead of devastation, you will have celebrations.
Keys to unlock the satanic prison, regain freedom and possess your possessions thereby fulfilling Divine purpose for your life are hereby delivered to you. God’s intention towards you is good. It is time to recover from distress, frustration and discontent. It’s time for your restoration and only God has the power to restore. God will pass through man to restore you, but do not hope in man rather hope in God.

1. Make up your mind as to what you want from God and be prepared to take the steps of faith after receiving Divine directives.
   2.Resist the devil. Satan hates you. Satan is intent on stealing from you. He wants to destroy your life. He wants you to continue wallowing in sin so as to deprive you of the joy in fellowship with God. You must no more believe the lies from the gates of hell rather believe God for God faithfully and passionately loves you.
   3.Return to God. Seek the Kingdom of God. Read and meditate prayerfully on the Word of God. Seek knowledge, understanding and wisdom from the Living Word.
   4.Eschew arrogance. Be humble to admit your need for emancipation from satanic grip; your need for restoration.
   5.Allow the Holy Spirit to function effectively in your life, henceforth. Let the gifts and fruits of the Holy Spirit fully manifest in your affairs and you will surely be glad you did.
   God is doing something great in your life right now. Your situation is changing from lack to abundance; from distress to happiness; from discomfort to easement; from dejection to gaiety; from distraction to calmness; from agony to assuagement; from anxiety to reassurance; from anguish to contentment; from despair to hope; from melancholy to cheerfulness; and from trepidation to relaxation, in the precious name of Jesus Christ.

MESSAGE FROM THE ALTAR 24/01/21

SPIRITUAL FELLOWSHIP.
TEXT: ACTS 2:42

They spent their time learning from the apostles, and they were like family to each other. They also broke bread and prayed together.
(CEV).

Spiritual Fellowship was created by the Holy Spirit. It was a creation that came into existence as promise fulfilled for Jesus Christ before his ascension did promise to send the Holy Spirit to the disciples to empower, teach and comfort them. Jesus Christ had forseen the great affliction that would be visited upon the believers and saw the need for the disciples to be strengthened, encouraged and comforted. The Holy Spirit descending to replace his ascension was Jesus Christ’s solution to the problem facing the Church. Jesus Christ, therefore, told the disciples to wait in Jerusalem till the Power promised would descend and empower them.
The Holy Spirit descended and took charge of the Church on the Day of Pentecost when the believers received the Comforter and till today, the Holy Spirit has been sustaining and directing the Church of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. (Acts 2:1-6).
It is imperative for the Church to exhibit the characteristics of spiritual fellowship else she becomes like salt losing its savour; like light lacking its lustre ; and like beauty fading away.
The early Church had the following characteristics and it is important that we compare them with what the Church is now in order to appraise ourselves correctly.
Characteristics of the early Church :
_ Encouraging one another (one for all, all for one) ;
Supporting one another in physical needs ; Respect for one another, taking into consideration their differences ;
_ They shared their experiences, their fears and joy together without reservations ;
_They did not indulge in gossip and as such they had confidence in sharing their plight, their weaknesses and strength ;
_The truth was spoken in love ; weaknesses readily admitted and forgiveness quickly given ; and the group was made the priority. The life was communal and while nobody was forced to play a particular role, the Church
never hesitated in dealing righteously with fraudsters and the cankerworms in their midst. The gospel was given top priority and the disciples strove in all ways to be true disciples of Jesus Christ with non-believers attesting to the lifestyle, hence the name Christians ( first so called in Antioch).
Are we as the Body of Christ still qualify to be called Christians ? Do we live Christlike ? Do we respect our differences, our weaknesses ? Do we support one another and speak the truth in love ? Can God use our humility and hospitality to reveal Himself to someone needing salvation ? Can God trust us for the glorious work of evangelism ?

Prayers:
_ Lord, grant me the grace to always show love to those I come in contact with.
Lord, help me to avoid or overcome spiritual hypocrisy .

_Lord, empower me to minister effectively to people’s needs

_Lord, grant me the grace to always be thankful for your mercies instead of complaining in bitterness concerning what I lack.

_Lord, remold me totally into a vessel of honour for kingdom work in the vineyard.
_Lord, fill me the more with the gifts and fruits of the Holy Spirit, in the precious name of Jesus Christ.
We are hereby enjoined to remain in Christian Fellowship ; do the work of an evangelist ; depopulate the enclave of satan as we win souls for the kingdom of God.
Our labours shall not be in vain, in Jesus Christ’s name. Amen.

FORGIVENESS

TEXT: EPHESIANS 4:31-32.

31.Stop being bitter and angry and mad at others. Don’t yell at one another or curse each other or ever be rude.

32. Instead, be kind and merciful, and forgive others, just as God forgave you because of Christ. (CEV).

The ability to forgive those who wrong us is one of the greatest difficulties in the life of humans. Many relationships that could have become great have ended because of the inability to forgive grievances. Priceless friendship have ended because of failure to exhibit this great attribute of God -forgiveness. Marriages have become divorces because of inability to forgive. Murders have been committed because of inability to forgive. Beautiful homes and families have become hellish and suffocating because of the inability to forgive. Nations have fought nations because of the inability to forgive. It is unfortunate that the act of unforgiveness has led to the breakup of many Christian fellowship, a group that is saddled with the responsibility of showcasing the attributes of forgivenes. A popular maxim says, ” An eye for an eye makes the world go blind”.
It is a common manifestation to hear, read and see the atrocities committed all over the world in the name of revenge. It has, therefore, become of paramount importance to remind ourselves this day of the urgent need to forgive one another since as human beings we are bound to step on one another’s toes.
To forgive is to give a favour without attaching any conditions to it; it’s the ability to restrain oneself from punishing an offender for sins committed.
We need to forgive one another considering the fact that God forgave us our sins at a great expense — the horrific sacrifice of His begotten Son for the redemption of our sins.
Broken relationships are restored through forgiveness.
The Bible makes it clear that we can only stay forgiven if we forgive others.
Forgiveness is a great attribute of love. In fact, Jesus Christ pointed out that we are to forgive not minding the number of times we have to.
Forgiveness comes before healing. We cannot heal the physical, emotional and spiritual injuries we suffer until we forgive the perpetrators of such inimical acts.
God commanded us to forgive instead of seeking revenge; instead of bearing a grudge. Therefore, only the disobedient children refuse to forgive.
When you refuse to forgive, you hurt yourself by allowing the hurt to remain in your memory.
To be true disciples of Jesus Christ, we must learn to forgive one another even as God has forgiven us.
In order to mature in the ability to forgive and forget, we must always be ready to examine and admit our part in the conflict. We must pray for the enabling grace to always forgive and forget when offended by someone.
Beloved, the second coming of our Lord Jesus Christ is very close.
There’s urgent need to intensify our evangelical activities but how can we be effective, fruitful if we cannot exhibit the important attribute of forgiveness.
Make amends today and you will become physically healthier and free in spirit .

MESSAGE FROM THE ALTAR 15/01/2021

A NEW DAY.

PSALM 118:24-25

24:This day belongs to the Lord!
Let’s celebrate and be glad today.

25: We’ll ask the Lord to save us!
We’ll sincerely ask the Lord to let us win.
(CEV).

It is a new day. Today is neither yesterday nor tomorrow. Today may be my last day on earth, so I will treat today as a special day. I cannot afford to spend the time I have today to count the misfortunes of yesterday for of what good will that be for me? The defeats and pains of yesterday must stay away with yesterday. The wounds of yesterday cannot be made whole again. My age yesterday can neither be the same today nor can I become younger today. Yesterday is gone with her thrills, pains, success, failure, victories, defeats, joy and sorrow. I can neither live yesterday again nor bring yesterday today. I will think no more of yesterday.
I will neither think of yesterday nor tomorrow. Today may be my last day on earth, and I cannot handle tomorrow’s activities today for today is today, tomorrow is tomorrow. Each day has it’s assignments and peculiarities. It is impossible to give birth to tomorrow’s child today. Tomorrow’s death can neither kill today nor the events of tomorrow happen today. Why then must I torment myself with tomorrow? I will rather live this day as if it is my last on earth.
This day is all I have. I woke up from sleep like a prisoner on death row pardoned. Many who were there yesterday are not here today, but I am here. I must appreciate God who gave me another chance to live. I will relish the warmth of the sun, the breeze of the wind, the pale moonlight, the blue sky, the starry night and I will enjoy the magnificent scenery all around me. I will lovingly embrace each second of today for it may be my last. Each hour of today is priceless to me and I cannot afford to misuse it. I will work hard today as if there’s no other day to work. I will love today and I will forgive all today, for today may be my last day on earth. I will do the work of an evangelist today for the Great Commission to win souls for the Kingdom of God and destroy the stronghold of satan was Divine assignment given to me. I will be a co-labourer in vineyard and I will bring succour to the despairing, the afflicted. I will be the Apostle of the Gospel for it may be the reason why I have the chance to live today.
And if I die not today, I will give glory to my sustainer– the Omnipotent, Omniscient and Omnipresent God.

Lamentations 3:22-24

22. The Lord’s kindness never fails!
    If he had not been merciful,
    we would have been destroyed.
23. The Lord can always be trusted
    to show mercy each morning.
24. Deep in my heart I say, “The Lord is all I need ;
    I can depend on him! “.

    Matthew 6:34

Don’t worry about tomorrow. It will take care of itself. You have enough to worry about today.
(CEV).

Isaiah 43:18-19

18.Forget what happened long ago! Don’t think about the past.

19. Iam creating something new. There it is! Do you see it?
    (CEV).

Beloved, forget yesterday, you can’t change it. Have no anxiety about tomorrow for it may never come. What happened in the past is past. What you have is today God says that He is doing a new thing and it is springing forth now.
Hallelujah.
